SHAMALI PROVINCE

Once the breadbasket of Afghanistan, it is now an area of devastation, burned to the ground by Taliban and Al Qaeda forces as they retreated from the north in 2001. No area received more damage than the District known as Mir Bacha Kot. It is here where AAF rebuilt 84 homes as people slowly begin to return. AAF also built a deep water well after overcoming unexpected rough ground and other technical problems.
